Reading at Home

This is the page where you will find useful links to websites for books and additional reading information.

In Year 1 we continue with Little Wandle Reading sessions and need your support with reading at home with your child.  Please share a book, ideally daily, with your child.  Little and often is more effective than once a week extended reading sessions.  The children need to bring their reading folders with reading books to school every day. Scroll down for a list of recommended Year 1 reads.

These websites give book suggestions for Year 1:

The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) has a YouTube Channel - Reading Books Aloud.  Here you will find a number of authors reading their own books.

They also have videos and information to support you reading books conversationally and creatively to your children.

Virtual School Library - Every week a popular children's author or illustrator will provide you with free books, exclusive videos and their top three recommended reads.

Oxford Owl has a selection of additional book scheme ebooks, these are not Little Wandle books but are good for extra reading opportunities.
