Next week in Year 3
Week beginning 26th January
On Thursday morning, Year 3 will be going to Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, to join with some other local schools, to rehearse for 'Singfest'. They will be leaving at 9:30 and returning at 11:30. Please ensure your child is wearing a waterproof, hooded coat as we will be walking there and back.
English: Explanations
We will be looking at the features of explanation texts. We will also be researching how people cope with living in Polar Regions and why they choose to be in these hostile environments, relating this to our work in geography, in preperation for our written work next week.
Reading
Please support your child on their reading journey by listening to them read their school book as much as possible, and by sharing other books - whether its cuddling up for a bedtime story, listening to an audio book on a car journey or discussing favourite authors over tea.
The children's reading books will be collected in on Wednesday and sent home on Thursdays. However, please ensure that these are in school EVERY DAY as they may be asked to read to an adult at any time.
Our class reading book is 'Moon Juice' by Kate Wakeling
Spelling
There will not be any spelling this week
Mrs Granville and Mrs Hill's group: Stage 1, step 14 - u-e
Mrs Statham's group: Stage 2, step 14 - adding es to words ending in y
Mrs Henderson and Mrs Awoyomi's group: Stage 3, step 14 - ei and eigh
The overview of the different steps, and examples of words for each, can be found under the 'spellings' tab. We would like the children to work on these rules at home each week. There are examples of activities in the spelling section and games are also set in 'Spelling Shed' which the children can access using their user name and password. These are set every Monday and run until Sunday evening.
Maths: Understanding additive relationships
Rearranging addition and subtraction equations, understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction and identifying the knowns and unknowns in addition and subtraction.
On Wednesday, we will continue with our Number Bonds Challenge. Please spend a few minutes each day practising the recall of addition facts within 20. By this we mean facts such as 7 + 9, 12 + 3, 4 + 2 etc. where the total is 20 or below.
