Next week in Year 3
Week beginning 9th February
On Tuesday, we will be holding the Y3 auditions for the KS2 Talent Show. Any performers, please bring to school any costumes, music or props required for your act.
Class 3a will be sharing homework on Thursday.
English: Explanations
We will conclude our work on explanations and Polar Lands as the children plan work and write an explanation about life for the scienctists in the Antarctic.
Reading
Please support your child on their reading journey by listening to them read their school book as much as possible, and by sharing other books - whether its cuddling up for a bedtime story, listening to an audio book on a car journey or discussing favourite authors over tea.
The children's reading books will be collected in on Wednesday and sent home on Thursdays. However, please ensure that these are in school EVERY DAY as they may be asked to read to an adult at any time.
Our class reading book is 'Blue John' by Berlie Doherty
Spelling
There will not be any spelling this week
Mrs Granville and Mrs Hill's group: Stage 1, step 16 - ee
Mrs Statham's group: Stage 2, step 16 - adding er and est to words ending in y
Mrs Henderson and Mrs Awoyomi's group: Stage 3, step 16 - adding the suffix ly
The overview of the different steps, and examples of words for each, can be found under the 'spellings' tab. We would like the children to work on these rules at home each week. There are examples of activities in the spelling section and games are also set in 'Spelling Shed' which the children can access using their user name and password. These are set every Monday and run until Sunday evening.
Maths: Column addition
Recognising which is the addend and which is the sum in column additions. Using column addition to add 2- digit numbers and to add 3-digit numbers (without column exchange).
On Wednesday, we will continue with our Number Bonds Challenge. Please spend a few minutes each day practising the recall of addition facts within 20. By this we mean facts such as 7 + 9, 12 + 3, 4 + 2 etc. where the total is 20 or below.
