Week 36 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week in Ra we have learnt all about castles. On Monday we learnt the features of a castle and their purpose for example the Battlements, Drawbridge, Moat, Arrow slits and the crenulation position on a hill. On Tuesday we labelled our own castle and spotted all the features that we had learnt. This helped us design and build our own castle on Tuesday afternoon. The children practised their cutting, sticking and folding skills. I was very impressed with how wonderful all the children’s castles were. They should all be very proud.

In Literacy this week we written sentences to describe castles. We showed the class different castles from around the world and the children decided which one was their favourite. The class then wrote the sentence “I like the castle because…” and thought of the reason why that was their favourite one. We focused on spelling the tricky word “like” and using a capital letter to start our sentences. We have also focused on letter formation this week and practised correctly forming the letter g.

In Maths this week we revisited number lines. The children have practised ordering numbers 1 to 20. We have also practised filling in the missing numbers. On Thursday we found numbers which were one less than and one more than using our number lines to help us. We also revisited number formation and practised correctly forming the numbers 3, 5 and 7.

In P.E this week the children continued to practise for sports day. This week we have practised the sprint in our colour teams. We have also practised egg and spoon and the sack race. On Friday it was sports day. We had a fantastic time! Well done Ra!

This week’s VIP has been Lara. Lara is a kind and caring member of our class. Lara loves the role play area and particularly loves the kitchen. Well done Lara! We enjoyed looking at the yellow team’s show and tell this week. Next week it will be red group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the red team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
