Welcome to Year 2  

Class 2:  Miss Walker (Tuesday - Friday), Mrs Morrison (Monday) & Mrs Moss

Class 2a: Mrs Williams, Mrs Collis & Mrs Heal

Wednesday afternoon - the classes will be taught by Mrs Hill & Mrs Collis while Miss Walker & Mrs Williams have PPA time.

NOTICEBOARD:

On Wednesday (20th), the children will be making their own dragon machines.  If you have any of the following, please could you send them into school by Tuesday 19th March at the latest:

  • Small, cardboard boxes with no side longer than 20 cm
  • Egg boxes
  • Kitchen roll tubes
  • Googly eyes 
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Any other items that your child may wish to use to make their dragon machine

The children enjoyed their biscuit dunking experiment.  Don;t forget to complete the Science homework challenge to be in with a chance of winning a prize.  Click on the link for the British Science Week website.

A new tab, Times Tables Rock Stars, has been added.  There are information guides and a video to help you at home with Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS).  All children should have brought home a letter with their log in details.

 

 

 

Week beginning: 18th March

Monday - Wear PE kit

Tuesday - Wear normal school uniform

Wednesday - Wear normal school uniform, we will make our dragon machines.

Thursday - Wear PE kit for outdoor PE

Friday -  Wear normal school uniform

Don't forget coats and water bottles every day!  

Miss Henderson, a trainee teacher, will be working with Class 2 until  just after Easter. 

In English, the children will look at non chronological reports and identify grammatical features (tense, word choices, how sentences start), use preopsitions and the comma in list sentences.

Our spelling rule for the week: words with y making /igh/ sound.

In Maths, the chidlren will start a new unit of work on division.  They will explain when items can be and cannot be grouped equally, they will learn the division sign and how division calculations link to division (sharing and grouping stories), they will calculate the number of equal groups and use skip counting to solve division calculations.

In Science, the children will learn about lifecycles (frog) and know that some offspring do not look like their adult.

In Computing, the children will use a bninary tree to name objects.

In Art, the children will use posterpaint to create shades and tints of colour.

In PSHE, the children will learn about the importance of sleep and exercise for a healthy lifestyle.

In DT, the children will make their dragon machine.

In RE, the children start a new unit of work learning about Christianity.  They will work to answer the Key Question: How important is it to Christians that Jesus came back to life after His crucifixion?
