Week 34 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week in Ra we have continued to read the book Jack and the Flumflum tree by Julia Donaldson. We have learnt all about treasure chests and maps. We have taken advantage of the beautiful weather this week and the children have been playing with the water outside and building sandcastles in the sand pit. On Thursday the children planted sunflowers in our allotment. We spoke about the life cycle of a sunflower and what the sunflower needs to grow. I was very impressed with how carefully the class planted and watered our sunflowers. We look forward to seeing how tall they grow!

In Literacy this week we have described the treasure in our Pirate’s chest. The children worked together to create a bank of adjectives. The children then used these adjectives to dictate and write their own sentence.

In Maths this week we have been investigating half. At the start of the week we looked at halves of shapes. The children cut out shapes and practised folding them correctly in a half. At the end of the week we looked at half of amounts (for example half of an apple).

In P.E this week the children continued to practise for sports day. This week we have practised the sprint in our colour teams. The children were fantastic at running as fast as they could to the finish line. As a special treat we all had ice lollies outside after P.E to end the week.

This week’s VIP has been Isla. Isla is a happy and caring member of our class. Isla always tries her best in phonics and is very good at spotting digraphs in words! Well done Isla! We enjoyed looking at the blue teams show and tell this week. Next week it will be green group’s turn for show and tell. Please could the green team bring in their show and tell bags on Friday morning.
