Week 34 in Class R

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

Good afternoon,

We hope you have had a lovely week in the sunshine. It has been extremely hot in school, so we have been balancing nice time out in the sun and cooling off time indoors.

This week, we have been practising our races for sports day. On Monday, we worked with the year 6 buddies to practice our novelty race. They worked great as a team and we know it will be a great show together to end their buddy friendships at the end of this year. On Friday, we practised our sprint races. The children were very speedy, but we did need to practise running in a straight line. We're really looking forward to our irst sports day in school in a couple of weeks.

In maths this week, we have been looking at halving shapes and simple halving of numbers. We have learnt that we need to partition the number in two and that when it is recombined, it is a whole. We have halving pictures and shapes and matched them back up again. We have also practised halving amounts with hoops and beanbags. We have also been making playdough pizzas and cutting them in half.

On Thursday, we repotted our sunflowers that we are growing as they are getting very tall now. The children enjoyed seeing the school allotment, weeding the beds and replanting the flowers. We talked about how they need plenty of soil, light and water. We will be asking the children to make sure they are getting plenty of water each day and have our watering cans ready. While we were outside, we had a surprise visit from Skye the puppy. She was having a great time exploring the field and we had a sneaky little stroke of her too.

We are looking forward to the disco and look forward to seeing the children in their beach theme costumes.

Have a lovely weekend!
