Week 28 in Class R

This week in Class R, we have been  learning all about the habitat of a tiger. The children have learnt what the word habitat means, where in the world tigers live and what other animals we might find in the same area. We have learnt that the majority of tigers live in India and that they are orange coloured and striped so that they can camoflage in the long dry grass. On Friday, we talked about deforestation and how it can affect the wildlife living in that habitat. We talked about it from a rainforest and how the mammals and birds living there would lose their homes, safety and food. Later, we discussed how it affects wildlife closer to home when many houses are built in places just like Holmes Chapel. We talked about what we can do to help protect the wildlife where we live and the children came up with some amazing ideas: recycling paper, building bug houses, feeding the birds nuts and seeds,  planting seeds and growing trees and flowers for the birds and the insects.

In P.E this half term, we are focusing on ball skills. We started with some short dribbling exercises around cones. To work on our hand-eye coordination, we worked on bouncing a ball on the floor and bending our knees to catch the ball as it came back up. The children were very good at this and we found it easier if we watched the ball carefully and moved our bodies carefully in the direction of the ball to help us to catch it.

In Maths this week we have been learning about teen numbers. On Monday we started with the number 11 and investigated what 11 is made up of. The children practised putting 11 on a tens frame and realised it was a 10 and a 1. We continued this throughout the week, trying to understand the concept that a teen number is made up of 1 whole 10 and x of the next ten.

We have enjoyed seeing and all about the special people in your families. We are loving looking at the photos and it is sparking some good conversation and  questions.
