Week 27 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week, our learning has been based around the story of Augustus and his Smile by Catherine Rayner.

We spoke and wrote about all the places Augustus visited in the story. On Tuesday, we learnt how to draw a picture of a tiger ready for a fact file we will be writing next week. The pictures were amazing!

In Literacy, we also looked at the well-known story The Tiger who Came to Tea and modelled how to have a tea party. The children discussed what we would need to buy for a tea party and what food we could eat. We spoke about the shopping list Mummy needs to make after the tiger has eaten everything in the house and played the shopping list game. The children even created their own shop and café on the playground. On Friday, we practised the letter formation for e (one that many children are finding tricky), x and z. X and Z are quite hard as the diagonal movements used are typically harder and the last movements children master linked to their handwriting, commonly they are mastered at around age 5.

In P.E this week the children worked together in colour teams to complete a relay race. The children practised passing the baton to each other and running around the cones. We also played some team games where we had to pass items along our colour team.

In Maths this week we have been partitioning into equal groups. The children have worked in small groups to share numbers into equal groups. We discussed how the children know whether the groups are equal and what this looks like. We practised this in different ways and discussed how we know when it is not equal.

Show and Tell:

Friday, 28th April: yellow group

Friday, 5th May: red group

Friday, 12th May: blue group

A polite reminder to send in the Blue Planet trip slip ASAP and any volunteers to help on the trip are welcome. Thanks in advance!
