Week 24 in class R

Class: Reception Year: 2023 - 2024

Good afternoon

This week we have been reading What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson. A fantastic rhyming book focussed on the secret plan of a clever ladybird trying to stop the burglars' plot to steal the farmers prize cow. Over the next week or so, we will be looking at different rhyming books and poems. Rhyming is a great skill for children to help with their phonics and to build vocabulary.

Following on from last week's map work, the children have drawn a map of the farm from the story and labelled the farm animals. We later wrote a sentence to describe the farm and what was happening. Farm animals are great words to practise our spelling with as lots of them use all the sounds that we have already learnt.

We have also spent some time talking about the animals that live on farms what their babies (young) are called, and we discussed what produce we get from them. The children were surprised to learn that we can get milk and cheese from cows, sheep and goats.

In maths, we have been looking at doubles. The children have been amazing at picking up this concept and knowing that we have to have equal amounts to make a double. Why not ask your child to show you doubles on their fingers. Great maths work this week everyone!

On Friday, we had a special assembly where Mr Mitchell came in to talk about his achievements in cycling, the types of races he has competed in and what medals he has won.

Thank you Mr Mitchell for sharing your time and inspiring the children in KS1.

Thank you for the cake donations for Red Nose Day and for donanating money to this wonderful charity. School will let you know how much we have raised when we have finished the counting.

We are looking forward to seeing lots of you at the disco tonight!
