Week 18 & 19 in Class Ra

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week we have focused on Valentine’s Day and learning why we celebrate it. The children spoke about what people might do on this day (for example make cards for a loved one, buy someone flowers or tell someone why they are special to them). The children then designed and created their own Valentine’s Day card for someone they love. They used their cutting and sticking skills to carefully cut out hearts and create a pattern.

In Maths this week we have explored the number 10 and different ways of making 10. We have looked at how many ways we can partition 10. On Friday we set up a picnic on the carpet with 10 items of fruit. The children divided the fruit between two different puppets. We then used a tens frame and a part part whole model to show how we can separate 10 into two parts.

In Literacy this week we have been looking at The Colour Monster and we have been discussing our emotions. The children have independently written sentences this week about how they feel. On Friday we spoke about how we can feel lots of different emotions at once. We used a bottle with glitter inside to show how our emotions can be mixed up. The different colours of glitter link to our emotions (for example yellow is happy and red is angry). During choosing time the children then created their own glitter bottles and practised shaking them up and then letting the glitter settle. In our choosing time the children used their knowledge of emotions to draw aliens with different emotions.

This week in P.E we have started practising our football skills. The children learnt to dribble around cones and practised our accuracy when kicking a ball into a net. The children also practised their gymnastics skills by balancing on boards and performing egg rolls. On Monday we had our Personal Best and the children enjoyed all the activities.

On Friday we spent some time with our Year 6 buddies. We had a go at some space yoga. We also designed and drew aliens with our buddies. We had a fantastic afternoon drawing, playing and reading with our buddies.

This week’s VIP has been Olivia. Olivia is a kind and sensible member of our class and her favourite subject is art. When Olivia is older she would like to be an artist. After half term we will continue with our Show and Tell. The first week back on the 3rd March it will be the green teams turn to bring in their bags. A letter has been sent home with all the Show and Tell dates for next term.

We hope you have a lovely half term and we look forward to seeing everyone when we come back!
