Week 10 in Class RA

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

This week has been anti-bullying week, which aims to raise awareness of bullying and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. On Monday we wore odd socks to raise awareness and spoke about ways of preventing bullying and being kind to everyone. Ra were fantastic at sharing ways of being kind and looking out for other children in the school. Well done Ra! We also sang the official song for anti-bullying week (Calling Out by Andy and the Odd Socks) which taught the children to always reach out about bullying.

This week we have introduced our new theme: Superheroes, Super me! We read Supertato and sequenced the illustrations from the book to help us verbally retell the story. We used our cutting and colouring skills and made our own superhero masks. We also designed our own trap to catch the Evil Pea and we made our trap using recycled materials. In literacy we wrote the word "trap" independently. The class even put on a puppet show all about superheroes!

In Phonics this week we learnt z, qu and ch. We have been reading new phrases every day in Phonics and spoken about capital letters and full stops in sentences.

In Numeracy we have learnt about the number 5. The children all had a go at subitising numbers to 5 (knowing what an amount is, without having to count- as in the spots on a die). They have also practised writing numbers to 10. We also started to practise one less and one more using cubes.

On Friday it was Children in Need. We dressed up in spotty clothes or non-uniform to raise money for children in need. We also had a raffle and guess the teddy to raise money. Thank you to everyone who took part in the raffle/guess the teddy games and helped raise money to help children and young people all over the UK.

Thank you to yellow group for sharing their show and tell bags with us. Next week, it will be red group’s turn please could they bring in their treasure bags on Friday morning.

We have been continuing our Christmas play practise, singing our songs and rehearsing our lines. The children are doing a fantastic job at learning all the lyrics and actions.

This week’s VIP has been Ermir. Ermir always follows the rules, is kind to everyone in the class and is brilliant at learning rhymes and songs.

Have a lovely weekend and we'll see you on Monday for more superhero adventures!
