Class 8 in Class R

Class: Reception Year: 2022 - 2023

Good afternoon,

This week the children have had a great week learning all about the Guy Fawkes and the Gun Powder Plot. This started with Mrs Noble telling the children the story about Guy Fawkes and learning ‘Remember, Remember the 5th of November’. We have talked about Bonfire night and fireworks too and how to stay safe, remembering what the fire fighters taught us before the holidays.

In maths, we have worked on the number 5. We have been looking at how to write 5, how 5 can be made using the Part Part Whole method to show our number bonds, and looking at where 5 lies on a number track.

In literacy, we have been watching fireworks and coming up with words that describe how they look and how they move. We have also made some marks that we thought looked like fireworks.  The children read a poem about fireworks, wrote their own class poem and came up with some actions too.

Fireworks by Class R

Shooting stars

BANG! BOOM!

Sizzling fireworks

Popping in the air

Fizzing colours zoom up and down and round and round and round

In PE, we learnt some gymnastic shapes (tuck, pencil and star). We used these to make a sequence of movements to look like a firework shooting up into the sky.

In phonics, we have learnt some more digraphs (two letters that make one sound): ff, ss, ll and also j. We discussed how j looked like an i or even a t, but it is different as it comes below the line when we write it.

From next week, we are starting our show and tell groups again. We are starting with green group again. Some of the green group did bring theirs in this week, so they were done today.  From next week, please use the following dates.

Green – 11th November

Yellow –18th November

Red – 25th November

Blue – 2nd December

Have a great weekend!
